Year 2 Music

Music – Composition

Y2 have developed their composing skills by creating short pieces in groups of 4 – 5. Each child within a group had a different boom whacker and created their own rhythm individually for the piece. They then agreed an order to play the notes in and polished performing their pieces in front of the class.

You can listen to a selection of their compositions.

Byron, Addy, Noelle

Eileen, Lara, Gabi, Marek

Evie Fatima, Leon, Hanson

Music – Composition

Y2 have started their musical year learning about pitch and created some compositions using two sounds: high and low.  They represented these sounds on two lines, creating simple graphic scores.  They then watched a clip of ‘Tom and Jerry’ and composed their own two-pitch piece, thinking about the kind of chase that might happen between these two characters!

You can read a selection of their compositions.  Can you imagine what is taking place between Tom and Jerry in each one?

Y2 Music Performance

Thank you to all the friends and family who came to watch the Y2 pupils perform.  It was fantastic to have such an enthusiastic audience.  The Y2 classes did us all proud with their excellent singing and playing.

If you would like to listen again or you missed the performance, then here are some recordings for you to enjoy:

  • Driver Don’t Allow – Whole of Y2 singing – the pupils have written their own version of the lyrics.
  • Traffic Jam – Whole of Y2, as well as some solo singers, boomwhacker players and improvisers.
  • Hall of the Mountain King – Bees and Hornets – playing on the boomwhackers
  • We Don’t Talk about Bruno – Bees and hornets playing the accompaniment on the boomwhackers – Wasps singing the different parts
  • Ode to Joy – Wasps – playing on the boomwhackers in two parts
  • Hakuna Matata - Wasps playing the accompaniment on the boomwhackers – Bees and Hornets singing the different parts
  • Sunshine in my Heart – Whole of Y2 singing in two parts

Y2 Singing for Families

Thank you for coming to watch us sing.  We really appreciate so many of you turning out in the rain!  We understand that not all parents can make a performance in the school day, so we hope you’ll enjoy listening to a recording of our singing.

We sang three songs:

  • Little Echo (The gap in the singing towards the end was caused by Mrs Addison, not the children – apologies!)
  • Who Did That
  • Threw It Out the Window

Liliana, Andreas, Victoria, Amiah

Myla, Daniel, Sofie, Ayden
