Home learning is set for children in classes from Reception to Year 5. Children are provided with a book to complete their work in. They are also given guidelines and paper clips to help them keep their writing neat.
Children are set between four to six challenges which may include a writing challenge, a maths challenge, a "make it" challenge, a philosophy challenge or a research challenge. As children are given about six weeks - which includes time over a school holiday to complete the work. It is hoped they will try all the challenges, but it is not compulsory, and they can choose if they attempt them all or not.
The challenges are linked to the topics the children will be covering in their classes the following term.
Children are rewarded for the effort they put into their Home Learning with certificates and tokens for their houses they belong to.
Pupil’s Home Learning is often displayed and celebrated within the class and sometimes assemblies. Teachers will provide a cursory mark in the books which will be returned with the next Home Learning Activity sheet.
Pupils in year six are set home learning in preparation for secondary school. They are guided through and expected to manage weekly tasks in English and maths.
