FREE SCHOOL MEALS
The Government is changing the eligibility criteria for Free School Meals from September 2026. From 1st September 2026, all children from households receiving Universal Credit will qualify for Free School Meals, regardless of their annual household earnings. This means that more families may now be entitled to Free School Meals.
Under the new rules, there are two categories of eligibility:
Targeted: For households earning £7,400 or less per year. These pupils qualify for free school meals, Pupil Premium funding, and additional support such as the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme.
Expanded: For households earning more than £7,400 per year. These pupils qualify for free school meals only.
