Song Writing – The Blues

In Y5 this term, we are learning about the Blues as a genre and then are composing our own Blues songs in small groups.  We have learnt a little about the history of the Blues and are basing our songs on the ‘One Shoe Blues’, performed by the famous B.B. King and written by Sandra Boynton.

Chorus

So far we have decided what makes us feel ‘blue’ and what we want to share in our songs and have so far written the lyrics and chords for a first verse and chorus.

One pupil in Y5, after hearing the ‘One Shoe Blues’ went home and wrote a complete Blues song independently called ‘Hidden Homework Blues’, following some of the patterns heard in the original.  Very impressive!  You can enjoy reading this too!

Ukuleles

Year 5 pupils have started learning the ukulele this term and are making great progress.  So far they have learnt the chords C and F, and have recently attempted G7, which is tricky.

We have been enjoying playing some light-hearted songs, such as ‘One Finger, One Thumb and ‘One Man Went to Mow.

We will share some sound recordings with you soon!
