Numberwork: an overview
At Kings Hedges Educational Educational Federation we follow our own Numberwork curriculum which covers the required content for that year group. In school, we practise NW skills daily because it keeps them fresh in our minds.
During school closures, each class teacher will plan and upload onto Seesaw a sequence of 5 sessions that are specifically differentiated to the needs of the year group or class. This means that your child will be continuing to develop the solid foundations that NW provides.
They will include content from these main areas:
- Place value
- Equations (including multiplication, division, addition and subtraction)
- Problem solving (including word problems)
- Reasoning (explaining your thinking about a concept)
They will also provide a short video of any new content, e.g. if the new skill was doubling there would be a video to practise that skill.
It is very important that children use the specific method that the teacher has shown them in these videos. These methods build on prior skills and knowledge that the children have acquired.
When your child has completed their daily work they should upload it to Seesaw so the teachers can mark it.
If you are given a prompt to 'try again' then your child should re-attempt the 1 or 2 questions indicated and then submit it to be checked by the teacher.
Presentation of the work is important because it supports your child's accuracy, particularly forming numerals carefully and setting out equations neatly.
