Summer 2016

Year 1

This term we have been focusing on healthy eating and salads. We tried and tested many different foods and vegetables, gave responses to each of them and decided which ones we wanted to use in our own salads. We then designed them; they could be layered salads, pictorial or patterned. After a fun morning preparing and assembling our salads, we got to eat them! Yum!

Year 2

This term we practised a range of joining techniques like stapling, sewing, sticking and gluing. Then we used what we learnt to design and make compass bags as part of our topic on ‘Survival’. We used these to hold our compasses on our trip to Milton Country Park – they were very useful and looked fantastic!

Year 4

This term in year 4 we have been thinking about different ways to make sandwiches to make them a bit more exciting, rather than just using 2 slices of bread. We had to design and make sandwiches aimed at children for Tesco to sell, using a range of sandwich holders, such as wraps, pittas and bagels. We took into account how much each individual ingredient will cost and what the most cost-effective ingredients are, in order to make the biggest profit. Most of them were delicious, but we also learnt which ingredients don’t go together!

Year 5

We haven’t been able to cover DT much this term, but we did go on a trip to a fire station and learnt all about how pulleys and gears are used in rescues they firefighters do.
