Drama class work

This term the children throughout the school have been busy using drama to help them with their learning across the curriculum.

Year 1

Year 1 have enjoyed learning about historical figures in space. They learnt about Neil Armstrong and Tim Peake. To bring the topic to life they used teacher in role so that the children could ask Neil Armstrong questions about his time on the Moon. They also went on a mission of their own and used role play to act what it could be like on a spacecraft.

Year 2

Year 2 started the year off learning about pirates and were lucky enough to jump into Storyland and re-enact the book ‘The Night Pirates’. Using the book as a starting point children went on adventure, looking out to see, walking the plank and then once they arrived on the island they received a message in the bottle. This led them to some creative writing in class.

Year 3

Year 3 gained inspiration for writing through the use of teacher in role. Mr Hodgkiss became an alien, Pob. The children questioned him but he also questioned the children so that he could understand what life was like in Year 3. The children then wrote a guide for Pob on how to settle in to Year 3 at King’s Hedges.

Year 4

Year 4 used drama to help them understand electricity in science. The children became parts of the circuit. They raised their hands once the battery was added to show the current flowing around the circuit.
They have also used drama in RE to act out parts of the Hindu creation story.

Year 5

Year 5 used freeze frames to discuss the different viewpoints in RE. They were focusing on Hindu stories. The children worked in small groups and then performed to the rest of the class.
They also used drama in History to act out different parts of the Anglo-Saxon invasion. From the drama, they discussed in groups whether groups of people have the right to ‘invade’ and what invasion means, a great way to use their philosophy skills.

Year 6

Year 6 have been learning about World War 2 this half term and used freeze frames to show the sequence of events that led to the outbreak of the war. They really worked on their facial expressions so show how feelings and emotions.
