Current Science Work

Reception

Reception have been very busy, practical scientists so far this year. They have their own investigation area and have created some wonderful skeleton pictures.
‘We designed packaging to keep our egg safe, the children thought about and discussed what material would be best to use. They then packaged their eggs and we tested them by dropping them off the slide. The bubble wrap was the best!’

 Year 1

All year, Year 1 will observe seasonal changes. Of course, so far it’s been Autumn and Winter. As you can see, they’ve been writing weather reports, winter poems and noting down what plants and trees look like throughout the year.

Year 1 have learnt all about different animals and have been sorting them into categories. They have noticed differences between animals and produced some brilliant writing about carnivores, omnivores and herbivores.

Year 2

These lovely Science-linked pieces from Year 2 are all based on healthy eating.

Y2 have also been learning how to make predictions and how to set up a fair test.

They have also carried out a comparison between modern houses and houses from the past, linking to our history topic about the Fire of London.

They have also made some computing links in Science by using the ‘Let’s get Sugar Smart’ app, recording how many cubes of sugar there are in certain foods and drink.

Year 3

Year 3 have been doing lots of exploring in Science this term. We’ve tested toy cars on ramps and different surfaces ...

... experimented with magnets; drawing diagrams and writing scientific information texts

... and learnt about the food groups that humans need to survive.

 Year 4

Year 4 have been learning all about electrical circuits in the Autumn Term. They have used drama techniques to help them to understand how circuits work and have explored a variety of circuits to see which ones work and don’t work.

There’s been lots of lovely practical Science happening!

They have also created their own night lights in DT, using the skills that they learnt in Science lessons.

Year 5

Year 5 have been learning about the water cycle and created some beautiful annotated diagrams.

 Year 6

Year 6 have been learning about their digestive systems, keeping detailed diaries about their diets and tracking how healthy their diets are on food pyramids .
