Summer 2017

So 2 Speak

So to Speak have been very busy this term! There has been a huge amount of cooking going on. They have baked and decorated lion face biscuits, made fruit kebabs and made some very fun looking sheep cake pops. They have also made spiders out of card and pipe cleaners.

Nursery

Nursery has had an action packed term. As part of their Baa Baa Moo theme, they have made their own mini scarecrows and filled them with straw. They then made a variety of insects out of junk modelling materials and tried really hard to add all of the correct details. The children also made dragon masks and built large dragons out of junk modelling materials.

Reception

Reception has been busy designing and making their own fire engines and police cars out of junk modelling materials. They have also been visiting the Play Pod on a regular basis to design and build a variety of different objects. Reception has also made fruity jelly pots as part of their theme work on water.

Year 1

Year 1 were set the challenge to design an eye-catching salad. They had to choose between a layered salad cup, a repeating pattern design or making a salad face. In classes they came up with their own design criteria and decided that the salad needed to look nice, be colourful and if they chose to do a layered salad the layers must be clearly visible. They were given a range of ingredients to use and had to cut them up very carefully, remembering to use a safe cutting technique. The finished products were great!

Year 2

Year 2 have been busy sewers this term. To link in with their art work, they have made their own magic apple tree out of buttons. They had to select the buttons carefully, making sure they fit on the branches. They then had to sew each button on, making sure they were all securely fastened.

Year 3

Year 3 have spent time completing their plant marionette projects this term. Having finished the sewing, they had to design and finish the decoration, make the operational devices then string their puppets to make them work. They have had enormous fun bringing their flowery characters to life, playing and performing with them.

Year 4

Year 4 have been challenged with creating an exciting sandwich product that would tempt a Year 7 pupil to eat it. Sliced bread was barred, so the sandwich had to incorporate a bagel, tortilla or roll that provided an interesting, balanced and healthy lunchtime snack. The results were delicious, if a little unusual, including taste sensations such as strawberries and barbeque sauce!

Year 5

As part of their ‘Parklife’ topic, Year 5 have studied, reviewed, compared and contrasted different parks, then come up with their own designs for the perfect play area. They have planned and created interesting and challenging play equipment to keep all ages entertained and stimulated.

Year 6

As part of their end of year performance, Year 6 have been busily crafting a range of props and scenery putting to good use all of their design and make skills learnt so far. They are being pretty tight lipped about their creations, but all will be revealed on the night of the production. We can’t wait!
