Starz Plus: Our Virtual Learning Environment
What is Starz Plus (Starz+)?
Starz+ is a Cambridgeshire County Council initiative to enable children in the school to share a virtual learning environment between themselves, their parents/carers and teaching staff at school in order to:
- share home/school learning experiences
- model use of the Starz Learning Platform for future independent use
- access age appropriate content
Starz+ provides the kind of tools – email, blogs, chat, information areas etc. that people will be familiar with from sites such as Facebook and MySpace, but designed specifically for primary-aged children. Children are then able to use these tools for educational purposes both at home and at school, in an environment where it is set up to be as safe as possible for children. Starz+ also offers the chance to allow parents and carers to see and talk about more of the work that their children are doing both at school and at home.
Logins and Passwords:
When children start at the school, they will be given a login and password which will remain with them throughout the time that they are at King Hedges Educational Federation.
Parents in Reception and new parents in Year 1 will be invited to a meeting to receive these logins as due to the nature of the site, Starz+ is initially encouraged to be used collaboratively between parents / carers and children.
In the older years, children are given the responsibility to safely store and remember their logins themselves (passwords can be reset by an administrator if necessary)
